Salah: Liverpool can win both EPL and Champions League

Mohamed Salah is upbeat about Liverpool’s chances to finish the season as Uefa Champions League and English Premier League winners.

The Egypt star spearheaded the Reds’ campaign on both fronts, scoring 44 goals as Jurgen Klopp’s men finished third on the domestic scene and fell short at the last hurdle in Europe, losing in the final to Real Madrid.

And ahead of their 2018-19 Champions League opener against Paris Saint-Germain on Tuesday, the former AS Roma star believes they can attain success in both competitions.

“Last season we knocked out Manchester City, then Roma, who had just beaten Barca in the quarter-finals. Each time, they were incredible games,” Salah told France Football.

“We played against teams challenging for the title and we still managed to reach the final, so of course we can do it again.

“I’m sure of it. We can even win both, the Champions League and the Premier League. I don’t want us to put pressure on ourselves, but yes, everything is possible.

“It’s a good draw with some good teams. PSG have some very good individuals and a great team. I’m looking forward to playing them. I’m looking forward to a very enjoyable and intense encounter.”

Swiss-Nigerian Goalkeeper Osigwe Prime To Challenge Uzoho For Eagles First Choice Spot

The battle for the first choice spot of the Super Eagles will definitely go down the wire as Swiss-Nigerian goalkeeper Sebastian Osigwe has thrown himself into the mix by virtue of his performance so far for Switzerland second division side SC Kriens.

Swiss-Nigerian Goalkeeper Osigwe Prime To Challenge Uzoho For Eagles First Choice Spot erroneously said the 24 year old struggled to get games last season but recent checks prove that he actually kept goal in 29 games last season with ten clean sheets to his name to help SC Kriens gain promotion to the second division.

Spotting jersey number 58, a shirt which he picked in honour of his mother, he has started the season on a sound footing with a man of the match performance in their last weekend game against Lausanne.

Highly rated in Switzerland, he has worked his way up the ladder and has improved tremendously from the young man who failed to make the Nigerian U20 team to the World Youth Championship in 2013.

His form has no doubt put him on a sound footing to challenge for the first spot of the Super Eagles of Nigeria, a position presently owned by Deportivo La Coruna goalkeeper Francis Odinaka Uzoho.

‘It’s made me feel so humble as all the messages I’ve had from all over the world, wishing me the best, and the good wishes do resonate very, very strongly with me so thank you for that support you’ve given me.

OFFICIAL: Barcelona sign Malcom on a 5-year contract

Barcelona have completed the signing of Malcom from Bordeaux, with the Liga giants having hijacked a proposed switch to Roma for the Brazilian forward.

Barcelona sign Malcom on a 5-year contract

The La Liga champions have struck a deal with the French side worth an initial €41 million, with an additional €1m potentially due in add-ons.

Malcom, 21, agreed a five-year deal at Camp Nou, with a release clause expected to be fixed at €400m.

Barca’s move for Malcom came late on Monday, hours after Roma had announced that had reached an agreement with Bordeaux to sign the player.

Roma supporters even gathered at the airport in Italy’s capital city to greet him later that night, but he never arrived. Instead, terms were being negotiated with Barca, who had gazumped Roma’s bid, which was reported to have been in the region of €32m.

Fernando Garcia, Malcom’s agent, met with the Catalan club to thrash out the final details as the contracts were quickly drawn up ahead of Tuesday’s announcement. Malcom will undergo a medical in Barcelona on Wednesday ahead of his presentation before flying out to the United States to join up with his new teammates.

Barca face Tottenham in Los Angeles on Saturday in the International Champions Cup, when Malcom could make his debut for his new club. However, if he’s not included in the squad for that game, he could, coincidentally, come into the reckoning for the Blaugrana’s match against Roma in Dallas next week.

It would add even more intrigue to the fixture at the AT&T Stadium, given Barca will already have one eye on avenging last season’s shock Champions League exit at the hands of the Serie A side.

Malcom first arrived in Europe in 2016, joining Bordeaux from Corinthians, where he won the Brazilian title, and made almost 100 appearances for the Ligue 1 club.

He can play through the middle but is primarily a winger and he scored 12 goals last season to help Bordeaux to a sixth-placed finish, drawing attention from a number of European sides.

Borussia Dortmund and several Premier League teams were linked, but it was Roma’s sporting director Monchi who looked to have sealed a deal to sign the talented attacker.

However, Barca arrived at the last minute to steal Malcom away from Roma and Monchi, who has turned down the chance to head up transfer operations at Camp Nou on several occasions in the past.

Stranded Nigerians In Russia Back In Abuja

A nursing mother and 154 out of 230 Nigerian football fans stranded in Russia after the 2018 FIFA World Cup arrived the country on Friday night.

The stranded football fans including a nursing mother in her mid thirties came through Ethiopian Airline flight number ET-ALP that arrived Nnamdi Azikwe International Airport Abuja at about 9.12 p.m on July 20.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr Geoffrey Onyeama, who was at the airport to monitor their arrival, lauded President Muhammadu Buhari’s effort to ensure their safe return.

He said that that the President directed that Nigerians, who were stranded in Russia after the 2018 World Cup tournament, should be evacuated immediately.

According to him,  the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has been monitoring the process of the evacuation, which is under the coordination of the Mission of Nigeria in Moscow.

He said that 155 stranded Nigerians were cleared to board an Ethiopian Airline flight to Abuja.

”The aircraft departed Domodedovo Airport in Moscow with the stranded Nigerians in the afternoon and arrived in Abuja this evening.

Onyeama said he had been working very closely with the Minister of State for Aviation following President Buhari’s directive on the exercise.

Some Nigerian football fans who were stranded had besieged the Embassy of Nigeria in Moscow on July 12.

”They were among the fans who travelled to the Russian Federation for the 2018 FIFA World Cup Tournament and were stranded after the events due to lack of funds for their upkeep.”

The minister explained that there was also an allegation that some airline travel agents cancelled return tickets of their customers without informing them.

He said President Buhari, however, gave the directive that they should be evacuated with immediate effect at the expense of the government.
Onyeama commended the good gesture of Mr President, saying those stranded were never part of government delegates to Russia.

According to him, the Nigerian Mission had been supportive by making arrangements for the feeding and accommodation of the stranded Nigerians in hostels around Moscow.

One of the returnees, Bamidele Fatai was full of praises to President Buhari for making their journey possible.

He also thanked the Nigerian Mission in Moscow for giving them necessary support.

Another returnee, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said he was swindled by an agent who cancelled his return ticket.

He said he was in Moscow to support the Nigerian Football Team and to catch fun only to discover that his ticket had been cancelled when he was ready to return home.

Real Madrid Announce Signing Of This Brazilian Wonder Kid

Real Madrid have presented Brazil’s 18-year-old Vinicius Junior as their new £38.7m signing at the Bernabeu Stadium.

The teenager, who can play as a winger or forward, joins from Flamengo after a deal – which is a record for a player under 19 – was agreed a year ago.

Madrid president Florentino Perez said: “He’s a player who is already considered one of the great hopes of Brazilian and world football.”

Vinicius made 37 league appearances for Flamengo, scoring seven goals.’

He played a significant part in the club’s rise to the top of Brazil’s Serie A, contributing six goals and three assists in their opening 11 league and Copa Libertadores matches.

Voted the best player when Brazil won the Under-17 South American Championship last year, Vinicius originally agreed to join Madrid after playing only 17 minutes of senior football.

Presented on the pitch alongside his compatriot, Ronaldo, who scored 104 goals in 177 games for Real between 2002 and 2007, he said: “This is the best opportunity a football player could have.

“I’m honoured to have reached the pinnacle in football, Real Madrid, at only 18 years of age.”

The fee surpasses the initial £36m paid by Manchester United to Monaco for striker Anthony Martial, who was 19 when he became the world’s most expensive teenager in a September 2015 deal that could be worth up to £58m.

However, it is well short of the £166m fee that Paris St-Germain have agreed to pay Monaco for 19-year-old French World Cup winner Kylian Mbappe, who was on loan with them last season.

Roma confirmed the fee taking the 26-year-old to Anfield was €62.5m plus €10m in bonuses, making Alisson the most expensive goalkeeper of all time.

Alisson has been linked with a Roma exit all summer and was believed to be closed to join Real Madrid or Chelsea until they pulled out of the running. Now he is officially a Liverpool player after Reds paid a fee that broke the transfer record of goalkeepers held by Gianluigi Buffon since 2001.

Alisson completed a €7.5 million transfer from Internacional to Roma where he initially served as understudy to Wojciech Szczesny before breaking into the starting line-up last season, during which he made 66 saves from shots inside the penalty area in Serie A in 2017/18, more than any other goalkeeper for a top-half side.

Being defeated by Liverpool in semifinals, the Brazil goalkeeper made 46 saves in the 2017/18 Champions League, at least 14 more than any other goalkeeper in the competition.

The 25-year-old represented Brazil at various youth levels before making his senior international debut in 2015, whereafter he has gained 31 appearances for the Selecao, including 5 caps at his first ever World Cup campaign.

“In terms of my life and my career, it’s a huge step for me being part of this club and this family.

“You can be certain that I’ll give my all.”

Tottenham star Heung-Min Son has signed a new contract with the club to take him through to 2023.

The South Korea international was one of the star performers of the 2017-18 Premier League as Spurs finished third in the table.

And Son has committed to a new five-year contract, putting an end to speculation that he could leave the club in the summer window, with Manchester United having been linked.

The South Korea forward, 26, has scored 47 goals in 140 appearances for us since signing from Bayer Leverkusen in August, 2015.

A three-time winner of the South Korean Footballer of the Year award, Son overtook former Manchester United midfielder Park Ji-Sung to become the top Asian scorer in Premier League history with our only goal in a 1-0 win over Crystal Palace in November, 2017.

Son became the first Asian player to win the Premier League’s Player of the Month award in September, 2016 and followed it up with his second award in April, 2017.

Since making his international debut against Syria in December, 2010, Son has gone on to score 23 times in 70 appearances for South Korea and scored twice at this summer’s World Cup including the second in a memorable 2-0 group stage win over Germany.

Son will now join up with the squad ahead of our tour of the United States where we will compete in the International Champions Cup against AS Roma (San Diego), Barcelona (Los Angeles) and AC Milan (Minneapolis) and will also be available for our opening game of the Premier League season away at Newcastle United before travelling to Indonesia to represent South Korea at the Asian Games.

He left ajax for United in a £14 million deal ($18 million, 16 million euros) four years ago.

He played only seven Premier League matches for the Old Trafford club last season.

Real Madrid Rule Out Neymar Transferlm

Real Madrid👑 Rule Out🚫 Neymar Transfer

Real Madrid have released a statement insisting they have “no plans” to make an approach for Paris Saint-Germain star Neymar.

The European champions have been heavily linked with a move for the Brazil forward as a big-name replacement for Cristiano Ronaldo, who joined Juventus in a deal worth €100m (£88m/$117m) plus €12m (£10.5/$14m) in additional charges .

Neymar, who scored twice at the World Cup in Russia, was already believed to be in the club’s sights prior to Ronaldo’s shock decision to pursue a new opportunity.

Once again, the Spainish giants have moved to put an end to speculation by claiming they have not held discussions with the former Barcelona man over a potential return to La Liga.

“Given the constant information linking the PSG player Neymar with our club, Real Madrid CF wants to clarify that it has no plans to make any offers for the player,” a club statement read.

“The relationship between the two clubs is extraordinary, so that, if at some point Real Madrid were considering signing a PSG player, the first thing it would do would be to go to his club.”
